Midthunder originates from the Fort Peck Assiniboine Tribe. Her mother was a castor and she studied at the Academy for Technology and the Classics in Santa Fe. She was raised on the Navajo Nation, in Shiprock. Her father, who is a native of New Mexico. Native American, and they are both enrolled in the Fort Peck Sioux Tribe. Amber's mother is adopted and so Amber has no idea of her ancestral lineage.
